Baggy Fit Guide
Often sizing up jeans is the best way to get that baggy fit you’re after, the trick is knowing how much you need to go up by (we explain that later, don't worry). Also don’t underestimate the importance of the fit, if you were to size up skinny jeans for example, you’d probably look pretty dodgy and have a few regrets.
Before we start you’ll need to know your waist measurements, if you don't, then you may want to read this conveniently placed article How to measure yourself.
So what fit do I want?
If you’re going for a very baggy fit you generally want to be going for a fit that's meant to be baggy anyway, so you want to be looking for a ‘relaxed fit’, or a ‘comfort fit’, then choose whether you want a straight fit or a tapered fit. The best straight leg jeans to size up in my opinion are levi 559s, and for tapered, levi 550s always work well.
How much do I size up?
So for bagginess you only want to size up the waist, you can do the length by a couple of inches as well but only if you want them to be hanging over your shoes a bit, or by 4 inches if you want to roll them up.
If you want just a bit more room than usual to make them more comfortable, then size up your waist by 2 inches. You won't see a massive difference, they’ll just be more comfortable.
If you want them to be very baggy then you’ll want to go up in waist size by around 5 inches. These will be very baggy but won’t make them too awkward to wear.
Now, if you’re hardcore then you’ll want to size up the waist by 10/12 inches, these will be pretty awkward to wear, but they’ll certainly look the part.
